Following

I only roleplay with mutuals! I follow people who I admire and want to roleplay with—so if that’s the case, PLEASE don’t feel shy about talking to or RPing with me! Chances are I’ll already have jumped on you to do something, but if not, it’s equally likely that I’m the one being shy.

Similarly, I have multiple reasons for unfollowing people. If I followed you but we haven’t interacted, I’ll likely unfollow you after a while. Please don’t take this personally. (I may also unfollow you if I’m strongly offended by something you’ve posted—unless it directly affects me and mine, I tend to pick my Internet battles.)

I don’t do greeters, and I don’t always respond to them.

Plotting

I’m usually content just to establish how our characters meet and proceed from there—it’s exciting to see how they interact organically—but I’m also open to more in-depth plotting.

At the moment, my default setting for Mulan is mid-movie, when she was training at Wu Zhong in disguise as a man; in threads where she is posing as “Ping,” I will be using male pronouns (he/his, etc). However, this isn’t the only scenario I’m open to plotting.

Within the boundaries of Mulan’s setting and character, I tend to be very flexible. As long as we can plausibly figure out WHERE and HOW our characters meet, I tend to disregard the WHEN—it’d be too hard to get anything done otherwise.

If figuring out how they’ll meet is getting too difficult, though, I’ll likely suggest a verse that might make things easier for both of us.

(Post-movie) Mulan and I are both 18+. Certain plot elements, usually of the NSFW kind, need to be discussed with me in advance. All NSFW and potential triggers on my blog will be tagged and/or hidden under Read Mores.

I am open to discussing and roleplaying smut, as well as violence. But I have a zero-tolerance policy for rape/noncon/sexual violence, won’t roleplay it, and will immediately unfollow anyone who posts it.

I ask that mutuals please tag gun violence, body horror, blood and gore.

Roleplaying

I roleplay only with mutuals. (It bears repeating.)

I’m open to all formats, but as a member of a literate roleplay group I tend to prioritize character development and para/novella threads.

I also tend to adapt formatting depending on that of whoever I’m RPing with; and I’ve been experimenting lately with my own formatting. I apologize in advance if this causes any confusion.

Don’t godmod me. In Ping’s case, this includes ignoring that Mulan is posing as a man. Her disguise is not a cheap plot device. The penalty for what she is doing is death and dishonor. It is not obvious to her comrades that she’s a woman, and I doubt that your character will recognize that she’s a woman at first sight either, especially if we haven’t discussed it OOC. I will count this as godmodding, I will know that you never read my rules or about page, and I will stop roleplaying with you immediately.

I will never drop a thread without first discussing it with you. If you’re worried I’ve missed your reply, PLEASE message me, because you’re probably right!

Shipping

This blog is multi-ship with some qualifications. While I do multi-ship, I like to keep it to a minimum, so I can devote as much time and development as possible to each.

Since Mulan/Shang is an element of my main verse, I will likely default to Mulan/Shang when it comes to shippy stuff. BUT this doesn’t mean you won’t see vestiges of other shipping on my blog.

Mulan isn’t actually aware that she is being written or shipped, and I favor organic plot and psychological realism, so any chemistry Mulan has with another character will be acted on. (As friendships go, this shouldn’t be a problem.)

As other relationships go, if Mulan is attracted to your character, I will probably message you to discuss it. It also means that if you notice YOUR character is attracted to her, I won’t be automatically put off! Either way, it’s important that we clear up what’s going on—or isn’t—between them.

Miscellaneous

My interpretation of Mulan has its roots in the Disney movie but is influenced by other adaptations of the original legend. For example, I’ve chosen to use the Mandarin Hua rather than the Cantonese Fa for Mulan’s surname, since it is generally present in Chinese adaptations and lends itself to a pun on Ping/Mulan’s identity.

I tend to incorporate elements of the 2009 Jingle Ma movie Mulan: Rise of a Warrior into my headcanon for Mulan. Although I currently have no face character, you’ll see me reblogging edits from this movie, which starred Zhao Wei.

Though I am Asian-American, I am not significantly Chinese (either biologically or culturally). I do my best to research how to accurately portray both Mulan’s culture and her historical context, and I would be extremely grateful to receive tips and criticism that will help me to responsibly portray her.

Let me know if you still have any questions! Most of what I’ve written out here has come from personal experience in the dark days before rules pages—it may sound harsh sometimes, but in person, I don’t bite. Often.
