So far, Mushu’s entire career as Mulan’s guardian can be pretty well summed-up in the way he first presented himself to her.  Can he command the respect he needs from Mulan when he has to?  Yes.  But has he really delivered yet?  No, not really, and ever since her first day in camp Mulan’s not really eager to follow his advice.

Still.  It’s nice to have somebody looking out for you, to constantly be at your side with snacks and water and words of encouragement.  Somebody who wants you to succeed, which is a rare and valuable thing to have, at Wu Zhong.  Could her so-called guardian be a little more proactive?  Definitely, but in the meantime, he rouses and feeds her every morning and gives her damp cloths when she’s wounded.  Mushu has got her back.

Now if he would just stop trying to help her cheat her way to success.
