The first time Mulan saw Shang, he was towering over her in disapproval and quickly took her to task for causing a brawl.  This was nothing short of terrifying for her: not only had she gotten off to a spectacularly bad start, the Captain made it clear that his training would continue to be intense and strict.

She managed to forget this for a few moments the first time the company at Wu Zhong saw their commanding officer with no shirt on - but most of the time, he’s first and foremost Captain Li.  Every time he so much as looks at Mulan, she’s sure he’s disappointed in and embarrassed with them all.  And almost every time she sees that look, they’re given extra laps or mess duty.  It’s hard to find anybody attractive when they represent fear and exhaustion to you!
